“Painting vivid pictures :: call me Basquiat x Picasso.”
One of my biggest takeaways from my trip is the developed understanding of my creative side. Through seeing the world and having the freedom to explore me, my eyes have been opened to an area of my life that hasn’t been truly fed and developed, a side that has been pushed down and ignored through the years.
I Blame Being an Athlete
One of the biggest reasons that I haven’t fully explored my artistic side is the fact that I played sports in high school.
For this reason I stayed away from that area of schooling, focusing on basketball and lacrosse. I never took photography or theater or any type of art :: “I am a business minded athlete. Art doesn’t fit into the equation.” ZCLOCO circa 10th grade.
How wrong I was.
Slowly, bit by bit, over the course of the last 7 months, I have realized my creative side is parched, buried in a back room, dying for light and fresh air and water, dying to live, to grow into a powerful force….
Then I saw this picture and realized that I need to LEVEL UP my creations, to make / create / do relentlessly and aggressively.
I realized I need to take my restricted plant from the depths and feed it what it needs to thrive and grow. I realized I need to keep not caring about what others think of what I create, to create more and more, to expand my knowledge of the arts, and to grow my overall understanding.
So I am launching this art path by embarking on Create :: Aggressively >> 1000. This road, traveled by many, means making and learning and growing aggressively. Not forcing it, no, but embracing the task as a natural progression, a necessity of moving forward, of *LEVELING UP*. I will make and create in a wide variety of mediums, to explore my taste, my style, my design, in all aspects, feeding my PLANT whatever it desires until it finds the right combination for reaching full potential.
This experiment begins a journey towards becoming a polymath.
Polymath : a person of wide-ranging knowledge or learning.
Da Vinci did it.
Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci was an Italian Renaissance polymath: painter, sculptor, architect, musician, mathematician, engineer, inventor, anatomist, geologist, cartographer, botanist, and writer.
I’m about to do it. I have toooooooo many interests to narrow down to just one medium, one industry, one segment.
“What does your art look like? What counts as a piece of art? What makes you think you can do this?”
I will be dipping my toes into everything : paint, wood, glass, steel, aluminum, pencil, pen, stencils, furniture, lights, fashion, film, photography, architecture, sewing, concrete, used, new, interior design and whatever catches my eye along the way.
I will be studying design generally and also different genres specifically. I will be defining what inspires me, putting names to the period of arts that I like, and finding artists who’s work I admire.
I will keep a running list of everything that I make here. Some will be for sale while others will be hideous. Some will hurt to make, while others will come painlessly.
It’s all part of the journey.
